April 13 - New Regional Chapter
On this day, Monday April 13, a new Regional Chapter was created.  109 people were contacted and 38 came to the first organizational meeting.  The executive committee was formed, the Bylaws were adopted and the new regional chapter was created.  The York County Beekeepers Association at this time meets in the Willard Middle School, in Sanford.  They will eventually meet on the third Monday of the month from 6:30 to 8:00pm.  Their next two meetings are scheduled for May 18 and June 15.  There's much more room for members then the little pictures show.  We welcome all that have an interest in honey bees.  Yearly dues is $4.00, come join us!

Erin Forbes and Larry Peiffer put on a workshop on creating nucs.  The 20+ students received with their instructions, a divided deep for wintering two nucs.  They also got two queens.  This was a hands-on approach where it was demonstrated what to look for and how to set up the nuc box for over-wintering.

Cumberland County Club Hives
May  -  Cumberland County Club Hives
The Club took a vote and decided it would invest some of it's money into having it's own hives.  Erin Forbes has done an excellent job at caring for the bees.  This is the same location that a nuc workshop was held this year.   A club hive winterizing session was also held here.  So, it's looking like the club hives are getting good attention and use.

      Maryanne Frazier

During the months of October, November, and December 2006, an alarming number of honey bee colonies began to die along the East Coast of the United States. West Coast beekeepers (especially those located in California) are also reporting unprecedented losses. This phenomenon without recognizable underlying causes has been termed “Fall Dwindle Disease”, and threatens the pollination industry and production of commercial honey in the United States. This has become a highly significant yet poorly understood problem for beekeepers.  For the full 15 page report please CLICK HERE (pdf files).
